About MeI write fiction and nonfiction for kids and teens. Many of my books in the Orca Soundings and Orca Currents series deal with current youth-related issues such as parent/child relations, anxiety, social media, drugs, sexual health and risk-taking. My latest work of nonfiction, Aliens Among Us: Invasive Animals and Plants in British Columbia, is the first children's publication in the history of the Royal BC Museum, and is one of the museum's top sellers.

A former middle-grade teacher, I now travel to schools and speak with student audiences about themes that relate to my books, with a special emphasis on the topics of:

1. Anxiety — covers outcomes in Grade 10 Career Education/Planning and secondary Physical Education;
2. Social media/digital citizenship — touches on outcomes in personal responsibility and digital citizenship at all levels;
3. Invasive species and biodiversity — covers Science outcomes in every grade from K-12.

My presentations are interactive, lively and packed with information for students to take away. Teachers often tell me that while kids are sometimes deaf to the Big Messages their teachers and parents try to communicate, they'll often "hear" those messages from me, because of my special way of connecting with young people.

About MeI attended the Vancouver Film School’s Writing for Film and Television program in the nether regions of the 1990's. After pitching and developing several screenplay projects for film and television in Vancouver and New York, I worked in marketing and public relations, before eventually becoming a professional copy and content writer. During this time I began writing my first novel, DEATH, THE DEVIL AND THE GOLDFISH, followed closely by my second novel, STILTSKIN both published by Curiosity Quills Press. I also occasionally write under the pen name 'Jane D. Everly' for my HAVELOCK series of novels for adults.

The first instalment of an upper middle grade novel series, HAIR IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES, is available now from Month9Books and Scholastic Book Club, with the sequel scheduled for release in August 2017.

I also co-host a geek movie podcast, am working on several new novels, and have a stunning amount of other ideas. I currently live happily in the Okanagan Valley, BC with one beautiful wife, three kids, one evil cat, one needy dog, and a multitude of characters that live comfortably inside of my mind.

I'm represented by Mark Gottlieb at the Trident Media Group, NY.

About MeI have a background in science and art. I am currently based in my hometown of Vancouver, BC, where I am completing my MA in Children's Literature at UBC. However, I love to travel and explore and I've been lucky enough to have lived, worked, and studied in many places beyond the west coast, including Toronto, Ottawa, England, Finland, and Japan. I'm thrilled to be following my passion for children's literature!
