About MeI'm the creator of Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy, a series of graphic novels for ages 6+. And I also draw Savage Chickens, a daily comic drawn on post-it + read more notes.

When I was a kid, I wanted more than anything to be a cartoonist. I read the local library’s entire collection of Peanuts cartoons, and every other comic strip I could get my hands on. I started drawing my own comics in the squares of old out-of-date calendars. I loved drawing and I loved making up jokes.

Like a lot of people do, I lost track of that childhood dream somewhere along the way, and I found myself working in an office instead, doing decidedly uncreative things. Under the glaring fluorescents, my penmanship deteriorated and I forgot how to draw. A few more years passed, and I started getting migraines.

Lucky for me, creativity is a bit like a stubborn weed that won’t die: the roots run deep enough that it will keep growing back under the right conditions. One day, when I was sick of working overtime and I’d had one migraine too many, I drew two chickens on a sticky note. I started putting these sticky notes online, and they soon attracted hundreds, then thousands, and then millions(!) of readers. I quickly learned how important it is to have a creative outlet in life. I haven’t had a migraine since 2006 (knock wood) and I’ve got the best work-life balance I’ve ever had. The daily strip led to more publishing opportunities and I started working on graphic novels. And hey, look at that. It turns out I’m a cartoonist, after all. Show Less

Speaking InformationI love talking about comics and encouraging people to explore their own creativity through comics. I've done speaking engagements at local universities and + read more libraries, at elementary schools, and at big comics conventions. I've done talks about all sorts of things: comics and creativity; how to get published; humour; being an artist on the internet; and more. With Laser Moose and Rabbit Boy, I've been doing more and more talks for kids, getting them to create their own comics and to show them how much fun it is to write and draw stories. I'm also getting into talking a bit about art therapy, because I recently overcame my lifelong fear of spiders while working on my latest book, Spidermania. Show Less
