Connect with Me
About Me
As a published author, educator and speaker, I love making new book friends wherever my adventures take me. Whether presenting to a school of 400 students,
+ read more
working with classrooms to grow a love for writing, presenting a workshop for educators or speaking at a family literacy evening, it is my hope to spark creativity in others through my love of reading and writing.
Connecting is about sharing the stories each of us carry. The power to change the world, one word at a time.
My middle grade novel will be released this October with Heritage House Publishing. It is set on the coast of British Columbia. "Thirteen-year-old Sidney finds purpose and healing following the death of her aunt when she joins an effort to save an old-growth forest." You can pre-order it now at any bookstore.
I love spending time out in nature, coffee in hand! Flora and fauna are woven into much of my story writing. Living at the base of a mountain with my husband and two daughters, we get visits from many furry and feathered wildlife throughout the year. My family also loves to travel and build with Lego together. I bring my unique Lego creations along to my author visits to show there are many ways to tell a story!
I'd love to come and visit your school and community. Let's write some stories together!
My home and where I write is located on the unceded traditional and ancestral territories of the Stó:lō Matsqui, Sumas and Kwantlen First Nations and the Nooksack Indian Tribe. These communities have lived in this land, called S'ólh Téméxw (“Our Land”) in Halq'eméylem, since time immemorial.

"Thank you for such an informative and engaging presentation. You exceeded expectation. The

students especially loved learning about the publishing process. Thank you for having such a generous heart and coming to us.
The students started colouring rocks on their own time during recess and writing positive words on them. I love the theme of your new book and can hardly wait until it comes out.
Would you be able to send us your address so we can send you a little something?"
With gratitude,
Debbie M.
