CWILL BC's authors and artists uphold the highest standards of excellence in children's literature. If you have written and/or illustrated a quality publication for young people that has been issued by a trade publisher, we want to hear from you!
CWILL BC is open to all professional writers and illustrators who create works for children and young adults, provided they meet at least one of the following criteria:
Eligible writers and/or illustrators must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and, specifically, must be residents of BC or have lived in BC within the past two years.
Self-published authors or illustrators of self-published books may join CWILL BC with Membership Committee approval.
The Membership Committee is composed of at least three members in good standing who are elected or who volunteer from the general membership and are approved by the Executive. Individuals on the Membership Committee hold office for no more than two years unless voted otherwise at a general meeting.
The Membership Committee will: accept or reject all applications for membership by a majority vote; make recommendations to the Executive concerning rescission of the membership of any person, and; be empowered to waive any of the above criteria by unanimous vote.
Following a decision by the Membership Committee, an unsuccessful applicant may appeal the Committee's decision to the Executive, whose ruling will be final. The applicant may re-apply for admission to CWILL BC any year thereafter.
Annual membership dues are determined by the Executive and paid at the beginning of the calendar year. Members whose dues fall more than two years in arrears shall be in danger of having their membership rescinded. However, membership dues may be waived in cases of financial hardship upon application to the Executive.
